Discover one of Cumbria’s coolest visitor attractions.
My obsession with birds of prey started at the age of 10 when I took a week long falconry course in the borders and acquired my first wild injured Kestrel.
At 15 I began working for the same centre and eventually spent several years as head falconer at the Hawk conservancy in Hampshire.
At the age of 23 I returned to my home county of Cumbria to establish the Cumberland Bird of Prey Centre.
Initially opened as a visitor centre, the outbreak of foot and mouth in 2001 forced the closure of the visitor centre and so began the Cumberland Bird of Prey Centre as it is today, a centre providing exclusive tailored bird of prey experiences to people of all ages.
Birds of prey and the natural world are my passion and I look forward to sharing that passion with you.
Our Team

Buzz
Head of flight
Brings over a decade of flying to the centre and can be identified from his unique bell sound which helps us locate him when he goes out of radar.

Gollum
Carcass control
With a keen eye for dead things, Gollum takes her contribution to the natural world very seriously. She is so old that her birth certificate says expired on it.

Bungle
King of the jungle
Bungle is committed to ensuring our visitors get to appreciate the pure theatricality of falconry and is a bit of traditionalist when it comes to his act.

Layla
Head of Rabbit control
She operates a 24 hour pawtrol of the site, often the only way you know she is in the area is because of her white tail which is wagging from a bush.

Gary
Head of feeding
He is the responsible adult around these parts, and is the keeper of all things food and enrichment. No one has actually seen his left hand for over 30 years.

Graham
Head of laptops
He runs thing’s behind the scenes, usually wearing a shirt and heading to an important meeting or Costa. Makes things look pretty and shiny basically.
